SSG Alexander Scott Lawson USA
November 17, 1986 – March 19, 2019
Iraq and Afghanistan
We lost our cherished son and brother on March 13, 2019 at age 32. Army Combat Veteran SSgt Alex Lawson served six combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq and was awarded numerous medals for his service. In between deployments Alex also completed his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee. That was the character of the man we knew, loved, and respected.
Alex was a proud American whose future was shaped by the attacks of 9/11 on American soil. He realized his purpose and set into motion his future. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Alex was accepted into the U.S. Marshalls Academy. Unfortunately, the results of those six combat tours left him with injuries that were too great. He lost hope in the Veterans Administration securing his needed surgeries. He lost hope his body would ever recover from his battle wounds. Where once his smile lit up a room and whose love for life was so huge, Alex ended his life by suicide on March 13, 2019. Our lives are forever shattered by this incredible loss. What a shame to not see all that he could have achieved.
The sacrifices made by our veterans can never be forgotten.
RIP our beloved soldier.

“I had the Honor of Serving with Scott, in Afghanistan at FOB Methar Lam. He had returned from out west with an SF Unit that he was with. Alex was one of the finest men I ever served with or have known. I miss you Brother.”
“I met him on my first deployment to Afghanistan in 2008-09, as we were stationed within the same desert FOB. For a few weeks, we enjoyed endless conversation on tactics, techniques, and procedures… and life. I will always remember him being a very fine soldier and a generous, sincere, good man. I am so sorry for your loss.”
Tennessee was home.
