In Memory of Cpl Justin Kyle Stommel, USMC
November 20, 1991 – September 22, 2020
Shared by Justin’s mother, Keri: “Some of Justin’s Marine Corps buddies attended his service and traveled from all over the U.S. to do so. They said Justin was really the glue that held their unit together and that he was everyone’s go-to guy – at work & off duty. Justin always helped people without judgment and loved animals of all kinds. He had quite an animal farm of pets that were unwanted or belonged to fellow soldiers who were deployed. Justin was a heavy equipment diesel mechanic and when he was in Afghanistan, he was very proud of all the times he was able to get vehicles running with work-around solutions – especially the ones that had broken down in the field. Justin said they didn’t always have the parts they needed and it wasn’t always easy to figure out what was wrong, but he thrived on finding the problem and making things work – he never got discouraged or gave up. I think this comes from him growing up on my grandfather’s homestead where we lived next door to my parents and behind my grandfather. Justin would spend hours tinkering in the barn, the workshop or one of the storage sheds that contained over fifty years of random parts, tools, and equipment (really more like a big junk yard). Justin loved building things and could fix anything with some string and duct tape.
