Upon completion of recruit training, he attended Boatswain’s Mate A-School in September 2019. Lucian checked into his first command, USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) in October 2019. Lucian was assigned to Deck Department, 2nd division. He was responsible for the maintenance, upkeep, and preservation of 53 divisional spaces. He became the primary maintenance person in the work center. He completed over 200 maintenance checks and 19 spot checks, contributing to Deck Department’s high level of 3M readiness. Additionally, he led five Sailors in the completion of 20 SFIMS tasks and directly contributed in the completion of four space close out letters and three ship’s force grooming letters.

Lucian was a vital member of the Production Management team (PM12). As Leading Seaman for PM12 spray team, he brilliantly led six personnel in the preparation and assessment of 1,800 space pre-assessments totaling 85,000 square feet. He extraordinary efforts ensured 2,200 ship-wide spray outs were completed on-time, with zero mishaps. His supreme commitment to excellence significantly contributed to the completion of eight key event and milestones during the ship’s refueling and complex overhaul.

Lucian Woods was the ultimate professional, and accepted nothing less than 100% from the Sailors under his charge. His work ethic, adept knowledge, proven leadership, and management skills consistently produced exceptional results ship-wide. As an outstanding Leading Seaman, he displayed his uncompromising commitment to excellence in support of command goals and objectives. Lucian was charismatic and had empathy for all those around him. He was more than a shipmate; he was a friend and brother, and will forever be with us in spirit. He will never be forgotten.

Shared by his mother: “Lucian was a kind hearted person who always wanted to make you laugh. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. From the time he was little, he loved being outdoors, going to the beach, and skateboarding was his passion. Throughout school he sang in chorus and was in the 5000 Role Models of Excellence Project. In high school he met his beautiful fiancé Lilly Knoop, but she tragically passed away his junior year from a brain aneurysm.

He joined the Navy the summer of 2018 and graduated boot camp in Chicago August 31, 2019. He liked building gaming computers and would play with his buddies online for hours. His favorite food was sushi with ramen and fish cakes. He loved Anime and he loved music but hated when his sister sang along in the car! He would tell her to stop butchering 21 pilots! He joked for his brother not to quit his day job for dancing; he always had jokes. I remember when he told me he was finally getting to go underway; he called me and told me look. I felt so very proud of him at that moment and happy he chose to share that with me.

He had plans to open an auto paint shop and wanted a Japanese sports car. He dreamed of getting married to a girl from NY and starting a family. We are so blessed to have had him in our lives. He was the best uncle my granddaughter could ask for, because he loved her so very much. He was so truly amazing because everyone that new him loved him.”
