Michael Brandon Getchel, age 44, died in his home in Fort Walton Beach on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018. Michael is survived by his wife, Melanie, daughters Kayla and Emily Getchel and son Beau Getchel. He is also survived by his loving parents, Phillip W. and Darlene Getchel, his sister, Jennifer Winchell, and brother, Phillip J. Getchel, as well as extended family

Dedicated to his country and to service, Michael enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1992 and retired in 2012. He served with bravery, distinction, honor and valor throughout several tours abroad and during the Iraq wars. Michael received multiple commendations and awards for meritorious service, including the prestigious Farr Award (shooting bullseye at 1000 feet)! Michael grew up in the south, moving to Florida from Alabama during his high school years. He loved Fort Walton Beach, the beaches, the community and being with his extended family. He brought his family back to the area after his retirement. He loved Alabama Crimson Tide College Football team. He loved to play golf with his dad and younger brother. His brother was his best friend.

Throughout his life he was recognized for his loyalty, selfless dedication and support and loving nature. Following his retirement, he returned to the Middle East to continue to serve his nation. The dedication, discipline and patriotism he learned in the Marines never left him. He then followed in his father’s footsteps working locally at Fort Walton Beach Machinery as a CNC machinist. He is sorely missed by all.

States he called home: Alabama and Florida

Final Rest: Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
