Michael Wargo

In Memory of SPC Michael C. Wargo, US Army

June 22, 1976 – May 20, 2013

Michael C. Wargo born June 22, 1976 and was big brother to his little sister Kerry Ann. Michael attended St. Peter & Paul School 1st through 5th grades and graduated with honors from Lehighton High School in 1994. He attended Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science with an academic scholarship, graduating with honors from the Biology Pre-Med program in 1998. Michael changed his mind about going to Medical school and decided to teach Biology, Chemistry and Earth & Space Science because he fell in love with his college sweetheart.  In October of 2012 after receiving a degree in Computer Science Michael changed careers and worked for Boeing Aircraft until his death.

Michael enlisted in the Army after 9/11, he was assigned to FT. Drum, NY as a Non-Commissioned Officer, training Infantry how to survive Nuclear, Biological and Chemical war. He married his college sweetheart Julie on July 6th, 2003 and deployed August 6th 2003 to Afghanistan for 10 months. He returned home on May 16th, 2004 a different man after he witnessed the loss of 10 Army buddies. 

Michael died on May 20th, 2013 at home by suicide, and was buried on his 37 birthday, June 22, 2013 in Sky View Memorial Cemetery, Tamaqua, PA. The Veterans Administration declared Michael’s death “Service Related,” April 2014.

Michael is survived by his Mom and Dad, Sarah & Mike Wargo, his sister Kerry Ann, his daughter Brianna (10) and his loving ex-wife Julie.

Michael C. Wargo, age 36, of Bear, Delaware, formerly of Lehighton, died Monday, May 20, 2013 in Delaware.

A 1994 Lehighton High School graduate, Michael matriculated at Philadelphia College of Pharmacy & Science graduating with a BS in Biology in 1999.

Michael taught biology and chemistry until the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, DC and Somerset, PA. He joined the 2nd Battalion 87th Infantry Division as a specialist serving one tour of duty in Bagram, Afghanistan.

Michael was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to Delaware. He ended his teaching career in October 2012 at Cecil County Middle School. He then entered the private sector and was employed by Computer Sciences Corporation of Sterling, VA. He was pursuing a degree in Computer Science from the University of Delaware.

A fantasy football fan, he enjoyed camping, and adored his Siberian Huskie, Nikita.
