In Memory of
SGT Owen Sheldon Shropshire Jr, USMC
May 22, 1980 – October 25, 2021
Owen Sheldon Shropshire, Jr, age 41, passed away suddenly on October 25, 2021.
He graduated from Murphy High School in 1998 where he played football and baseball. Shortly thereafter enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country during wartime and in peace. After he was forced to take a medical discharge from the Marine Corp, he and his family moved to Harlingen, Texas. After moving to Texas, he went to work as a civilian contractor for Insitu where he flew unmanned drones and assisted the Marine Corps as they continued to fight the war in Afghanistan. His most recent employment was as a Field Specialist for Schlumberger. Sheldon loved BIG and lived BIG. His children were his greatest accomplishment while on this earth and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with them.
He loved Alabama Football, country music and cooking for his family and friends. Sheldon was a Marine through and through. He was a fighter until the day he left this world. He fought for his country, he fought for his family, he fought for his friends, he fought for himself, but his greatest battle was the one he fought within himself. We take comfort in his faith being made sight–that Sheldon has been made whole in the eyes of the Lord. This side of heaven, our family will always be a little less complete–a little less silly, a lot less loud, and never quite whole. We long for the day when we can see him again and let him know just how loved he truly was.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Mary Alice Jordan and his paternal grandfather, Archer Shropshire, Jr.. He is survived by his father Owen Sheldon Shropshire, Sr., his mother Mary Michelle Shropshire, his wife of 18 years, Kristin Shropshire, his precious children, Karissa, Kamryn, Evan, and Jeremiah, his sisters, Leigh Shropshire, Amber Moy (Alex), and Katie Strout (Benjamin), nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, a host of cousins and other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on November 5, 2021 @ Christ United Methodist Church on Grelot Rd.
