Ruben Andrew De La Torre “Beloved Son, Husband, Father, Brother, and Friend” Ruben Andrew De La Torre, age 28, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014. Born May 20, 1986, in (Tucson, AZ), Ruben was born to Arturo De La Torre and Leticia Weeks. He enjoyed/loved (being a Marine, spending time with his family, entertaining, dancing, grilling, joker and a huge Dallas Cowboys fan), and in 2004, graduated from Sunnyside High School. On February 14th of the following year, at 18 years of age, Ruben enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Shortly after he married his high school sweetheart, Krystal Aguilar, and together with her, began another chapter of his life. His first assignment was (Cherry Point), based in (Havelock, North Carolina). Ruben faithfully served (8 years) with distinction as a Marine in the United States Marine Corps, which included three tours to Iraq (2006-2008), earning several awards/medals for his dedication and bravery. Personal awards include Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and Good Conduct medal with star. Other awards include Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with two stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with two stars. He was medically retired (with an Honorable Discharge) on August 30, 2013. In July of 2013, Ruben accepted Jesus Christ into his life, while residing at the wounded warrior battalion, and shortly after became an active member at Tucson Church International serving on the First Impressions and Set-up Teams.
Ruben Andrew De La Torre is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose De La Torre and Evangeline and Harvey Weeks II, and leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Krystal; his beloved children, Amaya and Ruben Jr.; his parents, Leticia Weeks and Arturo De La Torre; seven siblings (four brothers and three sisters), a paternal grandmother, Maria De La Torre and a host of other family members and friends.
Ruben’s immediate family would like to express their appreciation for all the prayers, love, and support from family, friends, and strangers both near and far. We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love given.
