Specialist William Douglas Dunn, 35, of Gastonia, NC, a proud veteran of the United States Army passed away on June 4,2023 at his residence.  He was born in Mecklenburg County, NC on June 4, 1988, the son of Anita Shipman.

William was a graduate of Hunter Huss High School in Gastonia. At the age of 17 enlisted in the US ARMY. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of specialist. He served one tour in Iraq. He loved watching WWE and playing video games online with his nephews. He used to work on cars when he came home from the military.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Vassie Finger; and one uncle, Daniel Finger.

He is survived by his wife, Misty Dunn; stepdaughters, Maria and Christinia Escamilla; mother, Anita Shipman; step dad, Clifford Boggs; brothers, Johnny Dunn and wife Nora of Shelby, Randall Dunn and wife Leighann of Bessemer City, and Charles Shipman of Gastonia; sister, Bellie Ann of Arizona; nieces and nephews, Emily and Bobby Edwards of Greensboro, Samantha and Derek Scruggs of Shelby, Jacob and Patti Sullens of Shelby, Nathaniel Sullens of Shelby, Cheyanne Dunn and Ricky of Bessemer City, Sierra Dunn of Bessemer City, Brittany and Jimmy Duncan of Shelby, and Kristin Dean of Shelby; great niece Clementine Edwards of Greensboro, and Jada Duncan of Shelby; great nephew, Jaiden Duncan of Shelby; 1 great niece on the way, Zoey Elizabeth Diane Sullens of Shelby; special cousin, Debra Williams; aunts, Wanda Williams and husband Bruce, and Libby Frady and Ron, and Sandra Finger; numerous other cousins and friends; and ex-wife, Paula Dunn, Lake Wylie, SC.

He was a very loving son, brother, and uncle. Not a day will go by that we don’t miss him.

Places he called home: North Carolina, Hawaii and Ft. Polk, LA.

Laid to rest with full military honors.
